The Birthday Tradition 2

Seeing as I posted a picture of Christine wearing the birthday tiara on her special '0' birthday, it's only fair I do the same thing to Jane!

This is Jane after much protesting along the lines of I can't wear that, no I really can't. Really, I can't put that on in public.... Hmmm, does this look like the face of someone who is embarrassed to be seen in public wearing a tiara and holding a wand???

I think not!

Happy 40th Birthday Jane!

Lunch!

Every fortnight Aaron and I have lunch at my Mum's place with my brother Noel and his family.

Neither my Mum nor my stepfather are very well so they don't tend to leave the house much, which means they really look forward to our visits.

The last time we were there Mum decided she wanted Aaron to mow the lawn. Unfortunately the lawn mower hadn't been used in 18 months and no matter how much he tinkered Aaron couldn't get it to work!

My Mother always has a 'Plan B', and in this instance it was using a manual lawn mower to cut the grass!

Had the grass been shorter it might not have been a problem but the grass was too long and too spongy and it wasn't long before Aaron had to give the mower to Noel for a turn, and then vise versa!

While the boys exhausted themselves with the manual lawn mower Mason amused himself putting rocks into and out of a bucket!

Check out those gorgeous curls!

Oh baby!

Today I went for my 12 week ultrasound. In the last couple of weeks I have been thinking about today and getting quite nervous. The last time I was at the ultra sound centre was with Noel and Danielle 3 years ago and that day turned out horrifically.

Danielle came with me today, for moral support, as Aaron couldn't get the time off work. At first the baby was in the wrong position and the sonographer tried everything to get baby to move, including poking and prodding and making me stand up and jump up and down on the spot - with a rather uncomfortable full bladder.

Nothing seemed to work. The baby moved its arms and legs around but remained laying face down - not the right angle for taking measurements!

Eventually I was told to go and sit in the waiting room for 20 minutes so they could see the next patient and then I was called in again. Luckily baby was being obliging the second time around, although not for long, and the sonographer got the measurements she needed before baby moved sideways.

Although this test is not definitive, I have to wait until the next scan on 24 April, at this stage there are no visible problems so I can relax just a little bit more!

Nice and comfy... laying face down

Finally rolled over, stretching out arms and (long) legs!

Fishing

Aaron loves to go fishing, in fact he'd go fishing every day if he could! Unfortunately, a lot of the expeditions are unsuccessful, which has lead to me teasing him a bit when he comes home empty handed.

Of course I've heard all the usual excuses from the one that got away to 'it was too big and wouldn't have tasted any good so I let it go'! Yeah, I didn't believe that excuse either!

There was a big grin on Aaron's face when he returned from his last fishing trip so I knew he'd finally caught something worth eating... 4 medium sized whiting!

Not only does Aaron catch the fish he also does the cleaning and cooking - a light coat of seasoned flour and they came out soft inside and crispy outside. Delicious!

If only he was that lucky every time!

The Birthday Tradition

Some years ago my workplace came up with an embarrassing tradition for anyone celebrating a big '0' birthday (30, 40, 50 etc), and that tradition is that you have to wear a tiara for the day - including those people who serve at the front counter!

Thankfully I started work just after my 30th so I escaped the embarrassment that year and this year I will hopefully be on maternity leave when my 40th rolls around, a lucky escape!

Unfortunately my lovely friend Christine wasn't so lucky, and despite her request that people didn't make a fuss she was forced to wear the dreaded tiara, which this year came with a bonus wand!

That doesn't look like a happy face to me!

Yes, the wand and tiara even made an appearance at the birthday lunch!

While everyone else was drinking alcohol I was on the soft drink!
