Lest we Forget

It's Anzac Day tomorrow so I used that as the theme during craft time today.

Seeing as most of the children I look after are only 3 it can be difficult to find something age-appropriate but I ended up with 2 activities the kids enjoyed.

This is our 'stained glass window' poppy wall hanging - as coloured by my 2 year old

After the kids had coloured in their picture we turned the paper over and rubbed a cotton  ball dipped in cooking oil over the back (I think this was the kids favourite part of the activity). You don't need much oil on the cotton ball as the paper turns translucent fairly quickly and suddenly the picture starts to appear.

Once the paper had dried I added some string for hanging and if you put it near a window or somewhere full of light it really does look like a stained glass window.

Our other craft activity for the day used free printables from Mooo, which have some awesome poppy templates as well as an Anzac biscuit recipe and the Anzac day story for kids on their website.

After reading the Anzac Day story to the kids I printed up an edited version along with the poppy template which they assembled, with a little help from me when scissors were required, and then glued it on the picture.

For two and three year olds they did a pretty good job!

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

Lest we forget

Johnson's No More Tangles - Product Review

I was recently given some Johnson's No More Tangles products to try and I have to say I was really pleased with the results.

Toddler hair washing in our house tends to be stressful as Annabelle panics that soap will run into her eyes and sting, which happened once when she was very little and unfortunately she hasn't forgotten about it!

Annabelle has the type of hair that knots and tangles easily, and being a toddler she is a messy eater so food frequently ends up in her hair, particularly around her face. Between the tangles and the tears brushing Annabelle's hair is not much fun!

All that has changed since we started using Johnson's No More Tangles as the formula really does make the hair easy to comb. Not only is Annabelle's hair beautiful and shiny but it is so much more manageable now - she actually asks me if she can brush her hair herself - and best of all it doesn't hurt her eyes when her hair is being washed.

We use the detangling spray as part of our morning routine and also whenever Annabelle's hair needs some help to get the knots out.

I definitely recommend the No More Tangles three step routine for manageable, silky, baby-soft hair.

Happily brushing her own hair

... and now the other side.

No knots and no tangles!

Song for Belle

The Thursday before Good Friday.  Nothing good about it.

6 years ago on the day before Good Friday my lovely niece Belle was taken from us.

Eef Barzelay, leader of the indie rock band Clem Snide, has written a song for Belle, to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the day we lost her.

Missing you sweet girl.

I can't believe it is six years.

Mooo

I love to share* when I find something that I really like and at the moment that happens to be a website called Mooo!

At Mooo they design and create unique (and cute) personalised products for babies, toddlers and children - but I think big kids will like some of their products too.

I'm loving their Woodland Theme Kids Canvas - I'm a sucker for anything with deers or owls - and their super cute wall stickers - particularly the lighthouse (I recently spent a week doing lesson plans on lighthouses with my Day Care kids).

Another thing I love about Mooo is that they have some great free printables so if you are after some gorgeous Easter cards, gift tags, bag labels or egg rings then check out Mooo's Easter printables, which come in the following three themes:

Just a Little Bit Loopy

Very Vibrant

Woodland Creatures

I think the Woodland Creatures Easter card is gorgeous so I am using that card this year.

* This is not a paid endorsement and I was not sent any free gifts - I saw their website, liked it and wanted to share as I think they're products are really cool.
